Special Preview: The Evolving Role of FPGAs in DSP Applications

oct_image1.jpgThe largest FPGA vendors, Altera and Xilinx, have invested heavily in developing DSP-oriented chips and development tools.  BDTI has just completed an in-depth study of these DSP-oriented FPGAs, including benchmarking using an OFDM receiver benchmark representative of telecommunications infrastructure applications.  In this article we present insights gained from our benchmarking and analysis, focusing on the evolving role of FPGAs and other implementation technologies targeting digital-signal-processing-intensive applications. Texas Instruments Announces $5.75 Floating-Point DSP

oct_image2.jpgThis September, Texas Instruments, Inc. (TI) announced the 200 MHz TMS320C6720 floating-point DSP, the least expensive in TI's 'C67x family of 32-bit floating-point DSPs. The $5.75 chip is intended for cost-sensitive applications such as musical instruments, medical imaging and biometrics, and continues the trend towards low-cost floating-point DSPs. (More)
 
BDTI Releases ARM1176 Benchmark Scores

BDTI has released independent benchmark results for the ARM1176 licensable processor core on the BDTI DSP Kernel Benchmarks™, which measure overall signal-processing performance, and the BDTI Video Decoder Benchmark™,which measures performance on video decoding and similar workloads. (More)
